Ingredients

  • 2 cans (5 oz each) solid white tuna, drained well
  • 1/2 cup panko breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup green onions, finely sliced
  • 1/4 cup red bell pepper, finely chopped
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 tablespoon freshly grated ginger
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon chopped cilantro (optional)
  • 1/2 teaspoon sesame oil
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste
  • Vegetable oil, for pan-frying

Instructions

  1. Get Everything Ready
Measure and prepare all the ingredients so they’re ready to mix.
  2. Combine the Mixture
In a large mixing bowl, add the drained tuna along with the panko breadcrumbs, chopped green onions, diced red bell pepper, minced garlic, grated ginger, egg, soy sauce, cilantro (if using), sesame oil, salt, and pepper. Stir everything together until the mixture is evenly blended.
  3. Shape the Cakes
Divide the mixture and form it into 8 patties using your hands. Each patty should be about 1/2 inch thick. Place them on a plate while you heat the pan.
  4. Warm the Oil
Pour about 1/4 cup of vegetable oil into a large skillet and heat it over medium heat until hot.
  5. Fry the Tuna Cakes
Carefully place the patties into the skillet. Cook for about 3–4 minutes per side, turning once, until they become golden brown and crisp on the outside.
  6. Remove Excess Oil
Transfer the cooked tuna cakes to a paper towel–lined plate to soak up any extra oil.
  7. Make the Spicy Mayo
In a small bowl, whisk together mayonnaise, sriracha, lime juice, and a small pinch of salt until smooth and creamy.
  8. Serve and Enjoy
Serve the tuna cakes warm with the spicy mayo drizzled on top or as a dipping sauce on the side.
